Michael G. Garbo

Special Agent

February 10, 1970 - October 04, 2021

On October 4, 2021, Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Michael G. Garbo, investigators from DEA’s Phoenix Field Division, and Tucson Police Department officers were conducting interdiction operations on an Amtrak train in Tucson, Arizona. Special Agent Garbo was shot multiple times during the interdiction and succumbed to his wounds. He was a 16-year veteran of DEA.

Special Agent Garbo began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. He served in Nashville, Tennessee, for 12 years (including five with the U.S. Army Reserve) before joining DEA in 2005. Special Agent Garbo was assigned to the Phoenix Field Division and soon volunteered for two years in Afghanistan. Upon his return to Arizona, Special Agent Garbo was promoted to group supervisor. His unwavering leadership inspires friends, family, and peers to excel in everything they do.

Special Agent Garbo was survived by his wife, Vida; his daughter, Alexis; and his brother, Terry.
