Stories from the Collection: Platform Shoes
The first episode of “Stories from the Collection” showcases a pair of platform shoes worn by an undercover agent in 1970s Detroit. Retired Special Agent Doug Wankel wore the shoes to blend in with people around him as he investigated the use and sale of illicit drugs. The video features an interview with Agent Wankel from the Museum’s oral history collection. Upon retirement, he donated his platform shoes to the Museum where they are now on display. Learn how these shoes symbolize the creativity and dedication of DEA’s agents and employees, as well as the impact that communities have on agents’ perspectives throughout their careers.
